Carb Cycling

What are the negative effects of having a high carbohydrate diet in the long term? Your insulin levels will skyrocket; you will probably gain weight quickly. When insulin is high, you do not oxidate fat; when the insulin is consistently high, your body does not release fat to oxidize as an energy source.

Insulin is the hormone released by the pancreas when you eat food and is primarily stimulated by carbohydrates.

In summary, this cycle is based on varying times between a low carbohydrate cycle and a low or moderate cycle. There are different techniques and ways to do it.

What works for me is to consume more carbohydrates on the days that I do more physical activity, when I train heavy, like CrossFit type training, etc. On days that are not as intense at the training level, where – for example – you do cardio or yoga, you consume fewer carbohydrates. You can also choose a day that you do not do physical activity in which you organize your menu so as not to consume starchy carbohydrates, which helps you reset the body a little whenever you do it for a day.

Bear in mind that fat is inversely proportional to carbohydrates. Both are sources of energy; when you have a high carbohydrate day, consume less fat, or vice versa when you consume more fat, lower your carbohydrate consumption. One of these two energy sources must be predominant, so you will see a much faster change. The problem comes when you eat high in carbohydrates and fats, that’s when we are more likely to increase body fat.
